THE BIG BUZZ
Buzz into the Intricate World of Bees
“The Big Buzz” engages students in honeybee conservation, addressing global challenges and the Varroa mite threat in Australia through a year-long educational journey. Participants gain practical experience by constructing and managing beehives, fostering environmental stewardship.
This program empowers schools with hive ownership, while students make key decisions remotely, supported by expert beekeepers. It combines environmental education with real-world business planning, enhancing learning with a tangible impact on bee conservation and offering potential funding avenues for school initiatives.
Key Features
Timing: Year-long program with 3-4 lesson units per term of up to two hours in length. Lessons will cover elements from all KLA’s.
Your Hive: Ownership of a Flow Hive 2+ and European Honeybee Colony, this hive will be hosted at a remote apiary location or on school site if a suitable location is available and appropriate risk management steps are approved.
Hybrid Engagement: Our learning management approach will include regular interactive components through the engagement period. Allowing schools and students opportunity to interact online with our team and other students connected in this journey. Including AMA (ask me anything) sessions, interactive trivia challenges and a state wide Top Bee Leaderboard.
Additional Features
Hive Streams: Hybrid video engagement assets, released once per term, offering students a unique insight into the life of their honeybees and progress of your school hive. These will also be used as a behind-the-scenes windows with the collaborating team who they are working with as part of this effort.
Professional Development Opportunity: An optional engagement with our team and your staff exploring a session with a focus on biomimicry. Discover the lessons we can learn from nature and explore how these insights can be applied to enrich your team and school.
